Canon Nordic Ambassador ◐ Greenland Exploration
gunnar freyr gunnarsson

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
Gunnar Freyr is a Reykjavik-based photographer, storyteller, and creative entrepreneur. He was born in Denmark to Icelandic parents and in 2014, he decided to quit his corporate job to satisfy his desire for adventure. With camera in hand, his passion for exploration led him out into the wilderness. Gunnar loves to travel and is always excited for new adventures and projects!
Gunnar Freyr is an official Canon Nordic Photographer & Squarespace Ambassador

Capturing the spirit of Iceland's rugged highlands, the photographic lens focuses on the age-old tradition of sheep gathering at Landmannaafrétt, near the picturesque Landmannalaugar. Amidst this serene, untamed landscape, the intricate dance between shepherd and flock unfolds, a testament to resilience and communal bonds. Each image, vibrant and raw, tells a story of heritage and connection - a visual narrative of Iceland's enduring customs and the timeless beauty of its land.
I enjoyed being a guest at the newest luxury hotel in Reykjavíl, The Reykjavík Edition, and capturing brand imagery for Marriott’s use. As the hotel states, “The Reykjavik EDITION brings the first 5-star modern luxury experience to one of the world’s most sustainable capitals.”
I have done a lot of work to help promote Iceland, and Inspired by Iceland has certainly been a part of that. I have had an ongoing content creation partnership with this great company, as well as participating in influencer and social media campaigns, content consulting, and more.

The cutest season has arrived in Iceland! Yes that’s right, it’s lambing season again! With over 800.000 sheep in Iceland, cute curly lambs are being born all over the country. In some instances there are thousands of sheep at each farm! That’s a lot of newborns! Soon, they will be bouncing around all over the landscape - and there will be cuteness overload all over the place!
I’m super excited to be announcing my curated map and guides for Iceland. I have listed more than 320 locations for all of Iceland and I dare say this might be the most extensive map and local insight for exploring Iceland.
I‘m excited to have taken part in two recent book releases which feature my photography from Iceland.
Not just have I been quiet here on the blog but also on Instagram. In fact, it’s been the longest time I’ve been quiet since I started on Instagram. Unfortunately, it’s because of a very challenging situation.
With around 2 million tourists coming to Iceland in 2019, the tourism sector had become the largest in the country. However, in recent years, the industry had already been on a decline, from having grown almost exponentially since the financial crisis. With this trend already in place, the Covid Crisis has hit the industry especially hard, leaving many cities almost completely empty.
Even though it isn’t safe nor realistic to travel at the moment, I feel like the desire to travel – and plotting epic adventures – is what gets many of us through this dark-pandemic winter. And even though it won’t be possible for most of you guys this current winter, I wanted to talk a little bit about why it’s so epic to visit Iceland in the winter-time!
On a personal level, this year has led to a lot of change in my life. Essentially, I have undergone a decade of life-changing events in just one year.
